CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 2: either the post holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or the post holder will be working in a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor, legal executive); therefore a police check will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in other countries).
ROLE PURPOSE:
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : The Child Protection Case Worker is responsible for providing safe, ethical, and child‑centered case management services to children who are at risk of, or survivors of, abuse, neglect, exploitation, violence, or harmful practices.
The role ensures that the best interests of the child are respected at all stages of the case management process, in line with inter‑agency standards, organizational procedures, and the Afghanistan child protection context.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage child protection cases in line with inter‑agency case management standards, applying the Best Interests of the Child, Do No Harm, confidentiality, and informed consent principles at all times.
- Identify, register, assess, plan, implement, review, and close child protection cases in accordance with approved SOPs and case management procedures.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with children, families, community leaders, teachers, and relevant authorities, ensuring regular and meaningful contact.
- Facilitate safe referrals and case management processes, ensuring informed consent/assent and confidentiality are respected.
- Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date, and confidential case files, including safe storage of documentation and controlled information sharing on a need‑to‑know basis.
- Develop and regularly review individual case plans in coordination with children, caregivers, and community‑based child protection structures.
- Update case notes and assessments regularly to reflect changes in children’s situations and revise case plans accordingly.
- Provide basic psychosocial support, guidance, and counselling to children and caregivers, including facilitation of group PSS sessions where appropriate.
- Support access to specialized services (health, MHPSS, education, legal, and protection services) through referrals and follow‑up.
- Conduct and regularly update service mapping, and raise awareness among communities on available services and referral pathways.
- Facilitate community awareness sessions on child protection issues, reporting mechanisms, CPiE, NEVA, and Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting.
- Strengthen the capacity of community‑based child protection structures and networks to safely identify and refer child protection cases.
- Support Child‑Friendly Spaces (CFSs) through regular visits, monitoring, and technical guidance to facilitators.
- Participate in case conferences, case reviews, and coordination meetings, especially for complex or high‑risk cases.
- Report any child safeguarding or PSEA concerns immediately in line with organizational policies.
- Develop weekly, monthly, and longer‑term work plans aligned with project objectives.
- Collect and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly activity data and reports through CPIMS+ and other reporting channels accurately and on time.
- Maintain an effective filing and documentation system in line with organizational procedures.
- Support and perform any other child protection related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
