Job profile

Under the supervision of the provincial Team Leader (Coordinator), the Agriculture officer will implement the project at the community level. She/he will closely work with field staff and project beneficiaries in Ghor and Herat province. Impart regular visits to farmer’s and livestock owners in the field, provide technical agriculture and livestock management training to project farmers, and livestock owners, distribution agriculture and livestock inputs to strengthen the livestock based livelihoods of food insecure farming families affected by recent drought. She/he will also provide support to the provincial Team Leader (Coordinator) and project Manager in compiling monthly and quarterly Progress Reports.

Responsibilities:

Under the direct technical supervision of provincial Team Leader (Coordinator), you will be accomplishing the following key responsibilities:

  • With the support of the Provincial Team Leader (Coordinator) and Project Manager, the Agriculture Officer will develop daily and monthly work plans.
  • He/she will spend approximately 90% of their time in the field, conducting regular visits to district program sites to observe and assess the performance of target beneficiaries, providing them with technical advice and relevant information as needed.
  • He/she will work closely with relevant project field staff, target farmers, and livestock owners to implement project activities, and will submit a monthly progress report aligned with the agreed objectives and outcomes.
  • Responsible for the distribution of wheat seed, animal feed, vegetable seeds, and nursery tools to the targeted beneficiaries.
  • Ensure the integration of cross-cutting themes—including data protection, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), adherence to BoQs, digital CBPP, community mapping, and documentation of lessons learned—throughout project implementation to ensure quality, accountability, safe practices, participatory planning, and continuous learning and improvement.
  • Organize mobilization meetings with target farmers to promote sustainability through active participation and engagement in all agricultural activities.
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess technical issues in farming, identify root causes, and provide practical solutions to farmers and commercial growers to ensure high crop quality, reduced crop damage, and increased production.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to farmers or landowners on optimal land use, promoting plant growth, and addressing or preventing issues such as soil erosion.
  • Conduct research and experiments to develop new or improved field crop varieties, focusing on aspects such as yield, quality, disease resistance, nutritional value, and adaptability to specific soils or climates.
  • Develop and introduce new methods or products for managing weeds, crop diseases, and pests; identify and classify pest species, including locusts.
  • Document and share case studies, success stories, and field visit reports as required.
  •  Engage with the community to introduce new agricultural methodologies, crop varieties, and techniques.
  • Deliver training sessions on agricultural techniques and livestock management to project farmers and livestock owners.
  • Establish strong relationship with project stakeholders at the district level.
  • To ensure constant relations and support to all project stakeholders
  • Assist Project Manager and provincial Team Leader (Coordinator) to facilitate visit of donor and TPM missions to the project areas, and ensure that they are briefed properly
Job Requirements:

Education & Professional Qualification

The position holder must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with extensive professional experience in Agriculture, Forest and Livestock development.

Work Experience

  • 3-year experience of working in INGO development programme
  • Possess at least a BSc degree in agriculture.
  • At least 3 years of working experience.
  • Evidence of a highly developed computer literacy
  • Knowledge of Dari and Pashtu language will be an added value.
  • Committed and honest in his/her work
  • Ability to provide technical supervision, motivate and train project livestock owners and farmers.
