Job Porpuse
Under the SHIFA/EOM project in Fayrab, the Medical Doctor will deliver quality primary health care services at the Basic Health Center in line with Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) national standards and Job Description. The position is responsible for diagnosis, treatment, and management of common illnesses (ARI, diarrhea, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and common mental health conditions), provision of OPD services, and ensuring appropriate referrals. The Medical Doctor will contribute to improving access to safe, effective, and standardized health services for vulnerable and target populations.
Major Responsibilities
A. Technical work:
Provide primary health care services including triage, first aid, trauma care, and management of essential communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Assess, diagnose, manage, and evaluate common health conditions including:
Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI)
Diarrhoeal diseases (AWD, ABD, dehydration)
Severely ill child cases
Viral hepatitis
Measles
Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP)
Malaria
UTI, STI, and PID
Common mental disorders (anxiety and depression)
Skin diseases, micronutrient deficiencies, common eye problems, and other common illnesses
Manage childhood illnesses according to the IMNCI protocol.
Assess nutritional status and provide treatment for Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) according to national protocols; refer complicated cases to higher-level facilities.
Diagnose and provide appropriate treatment according to MoPH-approved standard treatment guidelines. Include ensure use of rational use of medicines.
Complete and properly document all patient medical records and individual cards.
B. Health & Nutrition Integration
Manage both health and nutrition conditions in patients presenting with health and Nutrition related illnesses.
Work closely with nurses, midwives, and nutrition staff to ensure integrated and quality medical care.
Ensure the clinic maintains an updated referral contact list for Health and Nutrition and other specialized services.
Establish and maintain a detailed referral system for cases requiring higher-level care and ensure follow-up of referred cases.
C. Infection Prevention, Safety, and Facility Oversight
Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all staff.
Ensure Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures are implemented and maintained at facility level.
Ensure patient confidentiality and secure storage of health records.
Ensure complaint/feedback mechanisms and accountability systems are functional at the facility.
D. Community Health Engagement
Prepare and disseminate key messages to the community regarding available Health and Nutrition Services (HNS), including:
Purpose and importance of HNS care
Available services
Clinic location and working hours
Discuss and coordinate these messages with community leaders and stakeholders.
E. Reporting and Facility Management
Ensure proper patient registration and documentation for all OPD services.
Prepare and submit the Monthly Integrated Activity Report (MIAR).
Prepare and submit monthly pharmaceutical consumption reports.
Provide supervision and leadership to the health and nutrition team members and lead clinical activities.
Perform any other duties delegated by the supervisor.
Compile weekly and monthly reports and share with line manager over the time.
Raise regular supply request to line manager and ensure securing of mobile team supplies including therapeutic food and drugs.
Provision of monthly pharmaceutical consumption report.
Make referral system for any cases that need extra services (EPHS).
Any other duties as delegated by supervisor.
Day to day registration based on the approved format by MoPH
Sending the hard copy of the MIAR to the Health sector department focal point
Identify data needed for input into the health information system
Adhere to WV accountability standards
Ensure full compliance with WVI’s Accountability Frameworks, Safeguarding Policies, Code of Conduct, and donor requirements by actively participating in AAP mandatory trainings and integrating accountability mechanisms into all project activities.
Conduct meaningful AAP community engagement and sensitization during field visits, including distribution of CFM cards to beneficiaries and facilitating awareness sessions on the feedback and complaints mechanism throughout project implementation.
