ABOUT THE JOB
Under the technical supervision of the Protection Team Leader (TL) with inputs from Protection Manager, the protection officer will be responsible for conducting ethical and safe interviews with different community members and ensuring different age, gender and diversity profiles are represented each month. The protection officer will be responsible for assisting identified at risk individuals with referrals (both internal and external) in consultation with the referral focal point. Finally, the protection officer will be proactive in informing the TL and protection manager and with any concerning new and emerging trends of violations that may be occurring in communities and that he/she might be observing. Besides, He/she will be responsible for regularly sharing and updating protection case management information with the Protection TL/manager in the form of regular briefings.
He/ She will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities as caseworker himself/herself including weekly schedules, taking caseloads and ensuring overall adherence to DRC SOPs. He/ She will be working in cooperation with DRC’s protection with following sectoral integration among the economic recovery, HDP & emergency teams, in collaboration with local authorities and communities.
He/ She will also be responsible for directly managing assigned number of routines and some more complex cases supporting the TL and manager in any donor or MEAL reporting requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of the Protection TL & Protection Manager he/she will be responsible for:
- Providing direct client services within the case management program.
- Responsible for directly managing assigned number of routines and some complex cases.
- Be responsible for accurately entering data of directly managed cases in Activity Info and ensure the data is entered in a timely manner.
- Directly handle/manage cases (preferably more complex/ high risk cases) as per DRC standards and DRC forms/SOPs.
- conduct interviews with individuals identified by the team during outreach work or referred by other agencies and open a case if vulnerability criteria are met.
- Carry out comprehensive protection risk assessments for each client after receiving their consent for the same. Consider emotional, behavioral and social factors that affect their psychosocial well-being as well as protection and risk factors.
- Develop a tailored case plan with the client, based on the needs identified during the assessment.
- Close cases when the objectives in the case plan have been met and no further needs have been identified
- Manage cases in an acceptable timeframe according to DRC case Management SOPs.
- Support the preparation of all procurement and administrative documents required for case management implementation. Maintain highest standards of professional conduct and ensure actions do not put individuals at risk.
- Proactively liaise with the protection coordinator/ specialist for technical support of complex cases.
- Coordinate with supervisor on urgent protection or medical cases requiring expedited processing.
- Assist in onboarding and delivering inductions/trainings on the case management program for newly hired staff.
- Perform regular quality checks and spot checks on case files entered in the case management IM system, should regularly review coded case files (and the database) to ensure compliance with the case management standards.
- Ensure all data entered in Activity Info by assigned staff is error-free and in accordance with SOP guidance.
- Ensure data protection and confidentiality of information is always maintained. Including when reporting on the CM IM system as well as in the paper filing.
- Brief the protection manager/ TL on progress of casework under your responsibilities and in providing any reporting figures (number of open and closed cases etc.) required for donor and/or MEAL purposes.
- Ensure that confidentiality is respected at all stages of case management.
- Actively participating in weekly protection team meetings and highlighting outstanding protection concerns and operational challenges in the targeted locations.
- Responsible for coordination at the district and community level with relevant stakeholders.
- Be responsible for preparation of distribution point, and further procurement process.
- Support the referral focal points and protection teams to ensure updated service mapping (referral pathways and available services) and quality check the service mappings developed by the officers.
- Any other tasks.
