About Future Generations Afghanistan:

Future Generations (FG) is the collective name for an international network of non-governmental organizations including FG Country Programs in Asia and Africa, Future Generations University (FGU) and its alumni in 17 countries, academia, and individual’s experts. The original charitable organization, Future Generations, was established in 1992 for the purpose of learning from, and building upon the world’s most successful examples of community empowerment and social change. It is complemented by the Future Generations Graduate School (Future Generations University) in 2006 in the State of West Virginia with authorization to provide a Master's Degree in Applied Community Change focus on Conservation and Peace building.  The Future Generations Afghanistan (FGA) established in May 2002 and obtained its registration certificate from Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan in October 2005.  Since 2007, FGA has been operational in Eastern Afghanistan, and successfully completed development and humanitarian programs in Nangarhar, Laghman , Kunar, Nuristan, Logar, Wardak, Nimruz, Herat, Kanadahar, Badghis, Panjshir and Bamyan Provinces

Job Descriptions:

The MSME Specialist will lead the technical design and implementation of MSME development activities including training, business advisory services, value chain strengthening, and collaboration with government and private-sector stakeholders. This role involves providing technical assistance, capacity building, and access to resources to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of MSMEs in target communities.

Job Requirements:
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy for supporting the development and growth of MSMEs under the ABADEI project, aligning with project goals and objectives.
  • Identify key focus areas, target sectors, and priority activities to maximize the impact of MSMEs interventions.
  • Conduct MSME needs assessments (skills, market, value chain gaps).
  • Provide advisory support to selected MSMEs and startups.
  • Assist businesses in formalization and registration processes.
  • Conduct local market assessments and value chain analysis.
  • Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and mentoring sessions to enhance the skills and capabilities of MSME owners and entrepreneurs.
  • Identify opportunities for value addition, product diversification, and market expansion within MSME value chains.
  • Advocate for policies and regulatory reforms that promote an enabling environment for MSMEs growth, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
  • MSME business needs assessment report.
  • Support MSMEs to identify new markets and strengthen supply chains.
  • Facilitate business matchmaking, networking events, and exhibitions.
  • Collect and analyze data, conduct periodic assessments, and prepare reports on MSMEs activities, outcomes, and lessons learned.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the progress and impact of MSMEs interventions, including key performance indicators and outcome measures.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in training curriculum development and business advisory services.
  • Familiarity with Afghan economic context and MSME sector challenges.
  • Experience working with international organizations (UN agencies, USAID, GIZ, World Bank, etc.) preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in Dari/Pashto and English.
  • Strong reporting, analytical, and facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency in project management, monitoring and evaluation, and report writing.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for supporting small business owners and entrepreneurs.
