Job Descriptions:

The Maintenance Officer is responsible for ensuring the proper upkeep, safety, and functionality of MHCO facilities in Nangarhar Province by conducting routine inspections, performing minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical repairs, and implementing preventive maintenance plans for equipment, generators, and building systems. The role includes monitoring office assets and utilities, coordinating with external technicians for specialized repairs, maintaining maintenance logs and inventory of tools and supplies, and supporting the operations team with office setup and equipment installation. The Maintenance Officer is expected to identify and report safety risks, ensure compliance with MHCO safety standards, and maintain all facilities in a clean, secure, and operational condition.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine inspections of MHCO premises to identify maintenance needs.
  • Perform minor repairs (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical) as required.
  • Ensure office spaces, storage areas, and compound facilities remain functional and safe.
  • Report major maintenance issues to the Operations/Facilities Manager promptly.
  • Implement regular preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment and facilities.
  • Monitor and maintain generators, heating/cooling systems, lighting, water systems, and fire safety equipment.
  • Identify potential hazards and propose solutions to prevent accidents or disruptions.
  • Monitor office furniture, equipment, and assets to ensure they are in proper condition.
  • Support with installation, shifting, and repair of office equipment (printers, ACs, fans, etc.).
  • Maintain updated records/logs of maintenance activities and equipment status.
  • Contact and follow up with external technicians, suppliers, and service companies when specialized repairs are needed.
  • Ensure external work meets MHCO quality and safety standards.
  • Track warranty periods and service agreements for equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, spare parts, and maintenance supplies.
  • Prepare maintenance reports and submit to the Operations/Facilities Manager.
  • Support logistics and operations teams with office arrangements, setup, or movement of assets when needed.
  • Ensure all maintenance work follows MHCO safety guidelines and local standards.
  • Keep fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and safety equipment updated and functional.
  • Report any safety risks or urgent needs immediately.
