Job Descriptions:

General Responsibilities:

The Nutrition Manager will lead the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of nutrition-related activities under the HER-AF and other OPHA related projects. This role ensures that nutrition interventions are evidence-based, aligned with national policies, and responsive to the needs of women and children. The manager will also coordinate with stakeholders to strengthen nutrition services and promote community awareness.

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Planning & Implementation

  • Design and oversee nutrition interventions in line with HER-AF and MoPH PND objectives and UNICEF guidelines.
  • Develop detailed work plans, budgets, and activity schedules for nutrition components.
  • Ensure integration of nutrition services into broader health programming.

2. Technical Oversight

  • Provide technical guidance on maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN), growth monitoring, and micronutrient supplementation.
  • Ensure adherence to national nutrition protocols and international standards.
  • Support development of IEC materials and behavior change strategies.

3. Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Establish indicators and tools to monitor nutrition program performance.
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess service delivery and data quality.
  • Prepare analytical reports and contribute to donor reporting.

4. Capacity Building

  • Train and mentor health facility staff and community workers on nutrition practices.
  • Organize refresher trainings and supportive supervision visits.

5. Coordination & Advocacy

  • Liaise with MoPH, UNICEF, WFP and other partners to align nutrition strategies.
  • Represent OPHA in nutrition cluster meetings and technical working groups.
  • Advocate for nutrition-sensitive approaches across sectors.
Job Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience

  • MD, Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in managing nutrition programs, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
  • The position requires regular travel to provinces for field visits and providing support to project activities.
  • Strong understanding of Afghan nutrition policies and global best practices.
  • Experience with community-based nutrition approaches and health system strengthening.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills in English; fluency in Dari and/or Pashto.
