Position Description:
The Climate Change and Environment Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of environmental sustainability and climate resilience initiatives. This role plays a key part in integrating climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies into organizational programs, operations, and policies, while ensuring compliance with environmental safeguards and contributing to both national and international climate commitments.
Working collaboratively with internal teams, external stakeholders, communities, and relevant government and non-government agencies, the Coordinator supports the implementation of climate change policies and drives the delivery of climate adaptation, mitigation, environmental protection programs, and policy advocacy efforts
Responsibilities;
Deliverables and Milestones:
- Project Design & Implementation:
Deliverable: Design and implement projects on climate resilience, sustainable land use, disaster risk reduction, and ecosystem conservation.
Milestone: At least 2 major projects initiated and under implementation within the contract period.
- Climate-Smart Integration:
Deliverable: Climate-smart and environmentally responsible practices integrated across all programs.
Milestone: Documentation of climate-smart integration in 100% of active programs by Q4.
- Climate Vulnerability & Risk Assessments:
Deliverable: Prepare climate vulnerability and environmental risk assessment reports using recognized tools and methodologies.
Milestone: At least 2 assessments completed and shared with relevant stakeholders during the period.
- Technical Expertise & Advisory Support
Deliverable: Expert technical input on climate change mitigation/adaptation, NRM, and environmental protection.
Milestone: Ongoing – continuous advisory support provided; at least 10 strategic technical recommendations documented.
- Knowledge Products & Guidelines
Deliverables: Technical documents on climate and environment.
Internal/external guidelines.
Milestone: Minimum of 1 document/guideline finalized and disseminated.
- Indicator Development & Monitoring
Deliverable: Set of key indicators for tracking climate/environment initiatives.
Milestone: Indicator framework developed and validated within Q2; used for quarterly reporting.
- Technical & Donor Reporting
Deliverables:
- Technical reports
- Donor reports
- Case studies and success stories include learning and finding ways to integrate that learning into our collaborative efforts with the MEAL Team.
Milestone: At least 4 reports submitted, including 2 case studies/success stories.
- Capacity Building
Deliverables:
- Training and workshops for staff, partners, and communities.
- Awareness materials/toolkits.
Milestone: At least 6 training events held, and 2 toolkits developed.
- Internal Climate Awareness
Deliverable: Ongoing internal communication and awareness-raising.
Milestone: All program staff oriented on climate and environment issues by mid-year of the working contract.
- Resource Mobilization
Collaborating with the Grants Acquisition Coordinator to ensure that climate and environmental concerns are adequately addressed in proposals, particularly for ECHO, where this can be reflected in the MER.
Deliverables:
- Identification of at least 3 funding opportunities.
- 2 full funding proposals submitted.
- At least 2 signed/approved proposals.
Milestones:
- Opportunities identified by Q2.
- Proposals submitted by Q3.
- Funding secured by Q4.
- Strategic Planning
Deliverable: Annual Climate and Environment Action Plan.
Milestone: Plan finalized and approved within the first quarter.
12.Risk & Vulnerability Reporting
Deliverable: Risk and Vulnerability Assessment Reports (addressing climate and environmental threats, such as NEAT+, CEDREG, or similar tools).
Milestone: Reports completed and used to guide programming by Q3.
13.Green Operations
Deliverable: Green Operations Guidelines or SOPs for internal environmental footprint reduction.
Milestone: SOPs developed and disseminated by Q3.
14.Technical Support to the Team
Deliverables: Technical input on climate and environment to the Technical & Coordination Unit Manager and staff.
Milestone: Continuous support provided; at least 2 joint outputs delivered.
- Coordination and Implementation:
- In close coordination with the programme staff, implement the ESP and support relevant colleagues in climate change and environmental issues.
- In close collaboration, follow the day-to-day climate change and environmental issues with the relevant technical and operational colleagues.
- Travel to regions and collect relevant data and generate a relevant report and share with the deputy director and the technical and coordination unit manager.
- Assist the technical and coordination unit manager and the NRM team in introducing climate-friendly activities and technologies and implementing these new technologies.
- Networking Responsibility
- Maintain close communication and contact with the relevant NGOs and donors in Kabul and make positive contributions towards climate change and environmental developments.
- In close coordination with the relevant department head, represent DACAAR and participate in external forums, prepare reports, and share with the team when required.
- Strengthening networking with NGOs, donors who are active in climate change and environmental issues and getting relevant information and suggestions for the improvement of the DACAAR initiatives.

- Support fundraising & Communication, HR and Admin, and finance departments when needs her support.
