Position Summary
The Advocacy and Communication Officer plays a key role in supporting ACBAR’s advocacy and communications efforts. The position involves research, analysis, content development, media engagement, event coordination, and stakeholder outreach to advance ACBAR’s strategic priorities. This is a full-time role with standard working hours of 8 hours per day, Sunday through Thursday, with occasional travel as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Advocacy and Communications Support
- Support the implementation of ACBAR’s advocacy and communications strategy, aligning with strategic goals and objectives.
- Research, analyze, and draft context analysis reports, position papers, and feedback documents.
- Manage communications products, including the monthly newsletter, social media content, and website updates.
- Oversee social media accounts, engage with audiences, and monitor comments to ensure positive outreach and reputation-building.
- Monitor international, national, and social media for content relevant to humanitarian and NGO activities in Afghanistan.
Media and Public Relations
- Manage the photo and video archive, ensuring all materials are well-organized and labeled.
- Conduct media coverage (photos, videos, audio) in English, Dari, and Pashto, ensuring quality translations.
- Monitor government institutions’ social media for updates related to ACBAR activities.
Event Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
- Participate in advocacy working group meetings, draft minutes, and track NGO participation.
- Support the planning and execution of workshops, campaigns, and member engagement events.
- Co-facilitate regional and provincial advocacy trainings for NGO members.
- Represent ACBAR and the Head of Communication and Inclusion in meetings when required, providing analytical briefings and follow-ups.
- Maintain and update ACBAR’s advocacy and outreach networks.
Administrative and Organizational Support
- Provide administrative and logistical support for advocacy and communications activities.
- Collaborate with all ACBAR departments to strengthen advocacy and communications capacity.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the line manager or senior management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
- Strong understanding of Afghan NGO law and civil society dynamics.
- Proficiency in communication tools (e.g., MailChimp, website CMS, social media platforms) and MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Knowledge of the NGO community, Afghan government institutions, and international development actors.
- Excellent writing skills in English (required) and Dari/Pashto (preferred).
- Strong interpersonal skills for coordinating with internal teams, civil society, media, and government representatives.
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and meet deadlines.
- Professional, courteous, and culturally sensitive approach when representing ACBAR.
