The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.

AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.

 

Job Descriptions:

•    Conduct daily ward rounds for observation and review of patients. Ensure patient case notes, transfer, referral and discharges are written on a daily basis 
•    Run clinics on a regular basis. 
•    Regularly monitor patients' progress 
•    Attend to emergency cases when necessary. 
•    Carry out emergency surgical procedures when on duty. 
•    Counsel patients and relatives on health management 
•    Ensure timely availability of required support services in the process of treating patients, particularly when referred to other specialists. 
•    Liaise with Consultants on handling specialized cases in provision of patients' health care. 
•    Participate in all clinical activities and support departmental heads in timely and accurate medical reports, audits, and mortality reviews. Participate in all clinical audit activities, presentations, rounds and clinical teaching by visiting consultants 
•    Follow the routine Rota arrangements by Medical/Clinical Director or his representative 
•    Teach other health care providers -Nurses and Midwives - about specific techniques of services. 
•    Supervise and appraise staff and identify their training and development needs as per departmental arrangements. 
•    Ensure active participation in standard based management, clinical audits and Infection prevention 
•    Provide necessary teaching and clinical support to community midwifery students 
•    Ensure active participation in clinical governance and quality assurance activities 
•    Comply with rotation to other clinical departments 
•    Night duty is mandatory.
•    Establishment and sharenting of TFU and neonate services in the Kabul District Hospital. 
•    Any other duties assigned by Head of Department or Medical/Clinical Director 
 

Job Requirements:

Education:  Paediatrician Child Specialist

Work Experience: At least 2 to 3 years in the EPHS and BPHS   Hospital’s Services,

Skills:  

  • Technical Skills
  • Ability to develop supervision and monitoring plan and gap analysis
  • Other Skills: Understanding English Language and fluent in local languages (Dari, Pashto and Ozbik)
