Job Descriptions:

iMMAP Inc. is continuing to expand its capacity building support to humanitarian clusters, UN agencies, I/NGOs and civil society, including members of the NGO coordination body, in Afghanistan. iMMAP is currently offering capacity building on topics such as Information Management (IM), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Data Literacy and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E). Furthermore, iMMAP offers training on humanitarian reporting, using the ReportHub platform, and on current and projected hazards and risk analysis, using the Humanitarian Spatial Data Centre (HSDC) platform. 

Job Requirements:

Position Summary 

The IM & GIS Capacity Building Officer will work under the Capacity Building Coordinator to support the iMMAP IM-D3R Project's capacity building activities in Afghanistan. This role aims to strengthen IM and GIS skills and knowledge among iMMAP partners, enhancing emergency response and disaster risk reduction in the country. 

 Key responsibilities include engaging with iMMAP’s internal teams and partners to design, coordinate, and facilitate IM and GIS training sessions. This includes engaging with technical personnel to provide customized user training on iMMAP systems like ReportHub and HSDC. The Officer will also develop in-person, online, and self-paced e-Learning content on IM & GIS topics and gather feedback from partners to improve iMMAP's capacity-building resources. 

 Key Responsibilities 

Training Development and Delivery: 

  • Develop and revise training curricula, materials and products focused on GIS, iMMAP’s platforms and other IM-related tools, including self-paced e-Learning, in close coordination with iMMAP’s technical personnel.  
  • Lead and facilitate training and knowledge-sharing events in-person and online, and provide coaching support, to enhance partners’ operational IM & GIS capacities. 
  • Ensure timely and service-oriented coordination and communications with participants and partners, including the development of training-related communications products.  
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluating training activities, using gathered feedback and learning to improve training activities. 
  • Submit regular training reports and contribute to donor reports upon request. 

6. Partner Engagement and Technical Assistance 

  • In liaison with iMMAP internal teams and partners, maintain an up-to-date understanding of partners’ evolving IM & GIS needs and address support requests. 
  • Advise and support partners in the design, customization, visualization, and dissemination of datasets and assist the development of data exchange practices.   

7. Additional Responsibilities 

  • Adhere to iMMAP branding in all activities and products. 
  • Support the implementation of iMMAP Inc. Afghanistan's capacity-building strategy as directed. 
  • Complete additional tasks as directed to support project goals. 

Requirements

 

Education 

  • A university degree in Information Management, GIS, or a related field, from a recognized institution is required. 

Experience 

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in an IM and/or GIS related role in the development or humanitarian sector is required.  
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, with experience designing and delivering training programs, is highly desirable. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal, written, and visual) information to technical and non-technical people. 

Languages 

  • Professional working proficiency in both written and spoken English and Dari is required. Working proficiency Pashto, both written and spoken, is an asset. 

Soft Skills 

  • Well-organized with high attention to detail. 
  • Self-reliant and able to work independently. 
  • Excellent teamworking and problem-solving skills. 

Software: 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, incl. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, is required.  
  • Experience and knowledge of ArcGIS and/or QGIS is required.  
  • Experience and knowledge of data visualization and reporting tools is required, such as Tableau, Power BI, KoboToolbox, and Adobe Illustrator.
