Job Summary:
AFGA implements health/RH services in Family Health Homes (FHHs) to improve the quality of services provided. The program is designed to strengthen the capacity of health staff through regular mentoring, on-the-job technical guidance, and continuous quality assessment of services.
The Mentor plays a key role in identifying gaps, improving staff performance, and ensuring services are delivered according to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) standards and project requirements.
The FHH Supervisor/Mentor is responsible for supervising the technical and operational/field staff of the project at the provincial level in Jawzjan and Sar-e-Pul. Additionally, she is responsible for the day-to-day technical management of the project and overseeing implementation according to the project work plan.
The Supervisor/Mentor supports the development of capacity-building action plans based on field visit outcomes, analyzes ongoing and completed projects, and evaluates the effectiveness of the RH services provided on provincial level.
In addition to internal control measures, the main responsibility of the FHH Supervisor/Mentor is to coordinate closely with provincial supervisors to ensure smooth project implementation at the provincial and district levels.
Objective of the Position
The Mentor is responsible for evaluating, mentoring, and providing technical support to health service providers in FHHs to improve service quality, adherence to clinical guidelines, standard recording and reporting, and effective delivery of health services.
Specific Responsibilities:
Assessment and Monitoring
- Conduct regular mentorship visits to designated FHHs according to the approved plan and use checklists.
- Assess the quality of RMNCAH, family planning, ANC, PNC, delivery, OPD, and other related services.
- Review clinical practices, case management, and adherence to MoPH guidelines, protocols, and standard procedures.
- Identify gaps in service provision, clinical skills, counseling, patient follow-up, and recordkeeping.
- Provide supportive on-the-job mentoring.
Service Quality Improvement
- Collaborate with health staff to develop and implement corrective action plans based on mentorship findings.
- Follow up on the implementation of recommendations in subsequent visits.
- Promote respectful, confidential, and ethical service delivery.
- Strengthen the referral system.
Recording, Reporting, and HMIS
- Review OPD, family planning, ANC, delivery, and other relevant registers for completeness and accuracy.
- Guide health staff on proper HMIS recording and correct use of standard forms and tools.
- Support improved data quality and timely reporting.
Medicine and Stock Management
- Assess medicine and family planning commodity storage and management practices in health facilities.
- Guide FIFO/FEFO principles and proper use of stock cards.
- Assist in preventing wastage and expiry of medicines.
Coordination and Reporting
- Maintain close coordination with provincial supervisors and the project team regarding mentorship activities.
- Share findings, challenges, and recommendations with relevant staff.
- Prepare and submit mentorship visit reports, including findings, actions taken, and recommendations.
Expected Results
- Mentorship reports for each FHH or clinic visit.
- Corrective action plans and follow-up on implementation status.
- Documentation of improvements and remaining gaps.
