Objective of the Assignment The objective of the Clinical Mentor role is to strengthen maternal and child health (MCH) services by supporting healthcare providers in applying evidence-based practices, addressing operational challenges, and improving the quality of care for mothers, newborns, and children. The Clinical Mentor will ensure that facilities deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered services that contribute to reduced maternal and child morbidity and mortality. Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities
1. Review facility profiles, MCH service delivery data, staff capacity assessments, and training outputs.
2. Develop tailored mentoring plans for each assigned facility/team, focusing on identified gaps in maternal and child health care.
3. Conduct 3–4 structured mentoring sessions per facility/team over the project period. Provide hands-on guidance on:
• Antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care protocols
• Newborn care, including resuscitation and essential interventions
• Child health services such as immunization, growth monitoring, and integrated management of childhood illnesses (IMCI)
• Infection prevention and control in maternity and pediatric wards
• Documentation, reporting, and use of maternal and child health registers
4. Engage doctors, midwives, nurses, and other staff to ensure institutional learning and sustainability.
5. Track progress against agreed actions and provide follow-up support.
6. Identify challenges and propose corrective measures to strengthen maternal and child health outcomes.
7. Coordinate closely with project staff to ensure coherence between training and mentoring.
8. Submit brief mentoring reports after each session, highlighting progress, challenges, and recommendations specific to maternal and child health.
9. Individual mentoring plans for assigned facilities/teams focused on MCH.
10. Completion of 3–4 mentoring sessions per facility/team.
11. Session reports and facility/team action plans for maternal and child health improvement.
