Job Descriptions:

POSITION OBJECTIVE
The incumbent will plan and lead the implementation of aquaculture activities to promote sustainable and profitable fish farming practices at the community and project levels. The incumbent will also provide technical support, capacity building, and guidance to ensure effective and environmentally friendly fish production.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning and Design:
1.    Develop technical plans for the establishment and management of fishponds.
2.    Identify suitable fish species based on local climate, water quality, and available resources.
Farm Management:
3.     Supervise daily operations, including feeding, water quality control, and fish health monitoring.
4.     Manage disease prevention, treatment, and biosecurity measures.
Capacity Building and Training:
5.    Conduct technical training sessions for farmers, producer groups, and project beneficiaries.
6.    Develop training materials, brochures, and technical guidelines on fish farming.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
7.    Collect and analyze data from fish farms, assess progress, and prepare periodic technical reports.
Production and Feed Management:
8.     Formulate and implement feeding programs for optimal growth and yield.
9.     Estimate annual fish production and calculate potential farm income.
Technical Support and Advisory Services:
10.    Provide ongoing technical advice and on-site assistance to farmers and project staff.
11.    Recommend best practices to improve productivity and reduce losses.
Coordination and Collaboration:
12.    Work closely with stakeholders and partner organizations to ensure smooth project implementation.
13.    Coordinate with other activities of the program and keep them informed about the progress. 

14.     Support Area AFS Department and consultation with regional livestock coordinator and Area AFS Coordinator, design, implement, and monitor the livestock program in the field.
Reporting and Documentation:
15.    Prepare regular technical reports, document success stories, share lessons learned, and quality photos. 
16.    To carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way that reflects AKF (Afg)'s commitment to safeguarding staff, beneficiaries, and protecting children from harm and abuse in accordance with AKF (Afg) 's Safeguarding policy.
17.    To report any suspicions or actual violations of the Safeguarding Policy and/or Child Safeguarding Policy as per the given training.

OCCASIONAL SIGNIFICANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.    Participation in the AFS-related meetings with District government agencies and NGOs as required by the supervisor.
2.    To facilitate field days for farmers if required by the AFS Area Coordinator and the regional AFS manager.
3.    Perform any other job-related duty assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

JOB SPECIFICATION
1.    University degree in Veterinary Science from a recognized university.
2.    Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in fish farming, aquaculture projects, or related fields.
3.    Strong knowledge of local fish species (e.g., Common Carp, Grass Carp, Silver Carp).
4.     Experience in water quality testing, feeding management, and disease control.
5.    Computer knowledge of MS Office Packages. Good Communication and Report Writing Skills in National/Local Languages (Dari or Pashto) and English.
6.    Good Communication, Problem Solving, Teamwork, and Ability to work well with others.
7.    Proven ability to work independently or in teams, gender sensitive, and willing to work in challenging geographical environments within the target areas.
